Any examples of successful communities that are outside of the health, wealth, happiness realms I could borrow ideas from come to mind?

For example, insurance, tires, and similar products are bought because they have to be and are not actively used in the same way the examples provided of yoga and wealth creation (hustler) are?

Our category is around crime prevention and its an area that even as passionate as supers are about it, it's not the same level as engagement or excitement.

Maybe the answers are already here and I just need to ready it more carefully but this question came to mind on first read.

Great content also!

Hey Darren, that's a good distinction. The health / wealth / happiness categories naturally lend themselves to communities, but there are plenty of examples in other categories. (And there's more popping up every day.)

You'll mainly see these communities as Facebook Groups, Reddit forums, and courses. Many companies haven't created their own niche communities yet, so people are still on public + social sites.

Here are a few:

• Neighborhood Watch Groups (these are usually small, local communities, like this one in Clovis, NM): https://www.facebook.com/groups/805151216666306

• Lexus GX Facebook group (25,585 members): https://www.facebook.com/groups/1785734698344339

• Puppy 101 Reddit forum (273,000 members): https://www.reddit.com/r/puppy101/

• Tesla Owner's Club (worldwide, 1,000s of members): https://engage.tesla.com/pages/clubs

• B2B (this list from Mighty gives an idea of successful B2B communities) https://www.mightynetworks.com/pro/learn/the-best-b2b-online-community-examples

Every category has Supers – you just need to find out where they're connecting and work to bring them into your community.

Lots to think about here! I definitely want to build a community for the readers I want to help. I have been doing one-off webinars, and it's a lot of work to promote each one. A community feels like a more sustainable long term relationship with my audience.

Yes, that's the direction we're heading too — and it's been a great experience for us. Even inviting the people who have attended your webinars to be part of the community is a good first step. They're already engaged and have a relationship with you.

Yes! That's definitely what I want to plan on doing. It's great to see who is already getting invested, and I want to prioritize those relationships first :)

Wow. This is singing my music.

I have three communities in different niches which have very little overlap. I scaled them up during COVID but now I am scratching my head...now what?

It's disconcerting not to know the path ahead. But this article put it all in context because they each define new categories. Not at first...but since becoming a student of category design I began to understand where each one is and how to make it truly distinct.

But I still dont have 3 roadmaps to follow!

I know this is a great problem to have but this is such new territory.

BTW they each reside in Mighty Networks, Linkedin and WhatsApp spaces..mostly.

Thanks for a great post. GameChanging stuff very few are talking about.

I continue to get a little nauseated by the flood of 'personal branding' gurus online. 🤢 Have shared this analogy a few times. When a young bull gets 'branded' (ala Yellowstone) it also gets castrated, de-horned and de-wormed. It then gets burnt with a red-hot iron. [sounds awesome, right?]

Every single person is unique in their own way - why do they then need to get 'branded'. You Pirates continue to produce rock-solid, well-backed, funny, and deeply informative material. Interested in any 'community' you pull together. Keep going! 🚀

Growth is always a balance between short, mid, and long-term strategies. But if you have the subs and SEO, sounds like you're thinking in the right direction. Remember, your subs will tell you what they want and what makes the most sense to build next.
